Make individual homemade fruit cups with fresh mixed berries topped with whipped cream. Easy dessert recipe and snack idea for a kids party or brunch.

Homemade fruit cups are so easy to make. And really, the sky's the limit as to what you can add to your own fresh fruit cups; think berry cups, tropical fruit cups, and more.

Our youngest is a fruit fanatic, especially when it comes to berries. I've called him my little strawberry monster and my blueberry monster.

He also loves mandarin oranges, so don't get me wrong… We do buy the occasional canned fruit.

But fruit is best when it's fresh, especially when you're dealing with fresh berries like strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries.

This berry mix makes the perfect fruit cups for parties too. Think baby shower, wedding shower, birthday parties, and even brunch.

If it's a big bowl full of fruit salad you're after, mixed berry salad is another great option, especially for parties or get togethers. Pair it with strawberry marshmallow fluff for the ultimate sweet treat!

HOW TO MAKE FRUIT CUPS WITH MIXED BERRIES

There are really only a couple of steps to making this recipe, and most of it involves prep work like washing and slicing.

Now I do add in a little bit of sugar when I'm making these for dessert, but the sugar is totally optional.

And I do add in a little bit of lemon juice, mainly for flavor, and also to help preserve the color and freshness of the fruit. If you're really concerned about maintaining the integrity of your fruit, you may want to add even more lemon juice than I do.

The steps for making mixed berry fruit cups…

  1. Wash and prep all of your fruit, and make sure all the berries are fairly dry before slicing and mixing.
  2. Slice the strawberries and mix together with the blueberries, blackberries, and red raspberries in a large mixing bowl. Then mix together with the sugar (optional) and lemon juice.

Once everything is mixed together really well, you can add the mixture to small plastic serving cups and serve the fruit cups for everyone to enjoy.

You can even top them off with a generous dollop of whipped cream.

DO FRUIT CUPS NEED TO BE REFRIGERATED?

If you're not serving the fruit right away, then yes, I would refrigerate them. And also refrigerate any leftover fruit.

HOW LONG DO FRUIT CUPS LAST?

They'll be at their best the first 1-2 days after preparing the fruit. After that, they'll start to look a bit poorly, and they may not be quite as flavorful.

CAN YOU FREEZE FRUIT CUPS?

All of these berries can be frozen, but this will definitely change the texture of your fruit when you thaw the cups out.

Of course, if you'd rather serve frozen berries during the heat of summertime, then freeze away. Frozen fruit is a real treat on a hot summer day.

Just be sure the fruit is sealed in airtight containers or covered really well, so there's no risk of freezer burn.

  1. I would love to do this for a shower I am hosting this Saturday. My little cups are two ounce capacity. What were yours? I am trying to calculate how much fruit I will need to purchase. Thank you so much for your response!

    • Hey Melanie, those fruit cups should work fine! My fruit cups say 9oz. on the package, but I’ve never weighed how much fruit goes in them. I am guessing that they’re not far off from yours.
