How to make a rich and creamy no bake chocolate cream cheese pie with an Oreo cookie crust and a fluffy whipped chocolate filling. This old fashioned refrigerator pie is easy to make and perfect for the holidays!
Calling all chocolate lovers out there, you’re going to love this chocolate cream cheese pie! It’s a lot like my family’s favorite chocolate delight, except without the chocolate pudding, and just like my no bake peanut butter pie, it uses an Oreo cookie crust.

This pie reminds me of the old Hershey’s Sundae Pie we used to get at Burger King. Man, I loved treating myself to a slice of that pie back when I didn’t have gluten issues. Probably better that I can’t now… But now I can make it homemade, and it has so much delicious flavor packed into one no bake chocolate pie.
This is an old fashioned refrigerator pie recipe that you can make ahead to feed a crowd. Cream cheese chocolate pie is perfect for the holidays, or just make it for an easy weeknight dessert when you’re just too busy to make anything too complicated.

Ingredients & Substitutions Notes
- Oreo Cookie Crumbs – You’re going to need to crush up Oreo cookies to make the chocolate cookie crust for this recipe.
- Light Brown Sugar – I make sure to use light brown sugar for both the crust and the creamy no bake filling.
- Salted Butter – This recipe calls for salted butter in the chocolate cookie crust. If it’s all you have on hand, you can substitute with unsalted butter so long as you add an additional 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the crust to make up for the lack of salt in the butter.
- Unsweetened Chocolate – I add just a little bit of melted unsweetened chocolate baking bar to the crust for a little extra “oomph”. Everyone that has sampled this pie really appreciated the extra rich, chocolaty flavor!
- Ground Nutmeg – This may sound odd, but I highly recommend adding a pinch of ground nutmeg to the crust. Nutmeg enhances the chocolate flavor, and it balances out the bitterness that can be present in the unsweetened chocolate.
- Chocolate Chips – I use semi-sweet chocolate chips for the filling, but you can use milk chocolate chips or even dark chocolate chips if that’s what you prefer.
- Cream Cheese – You’ll need a good quality, full fat cream cheese to make this chocolate pie. It’s literally in the name!
- Whipped Cream – You can buy canned whipped cream from the grocery store, or you can make homemade whipped cream just like I did for the topping on this pie.
- Chocolate Shavings – I like to top my pies with shaved chocolate or mini chocolate chips. So good!

Expert Tips and Recipe FAQ’s
Chocolate cream cheese pie and chocolate cheesecake are actually similar in flavor, except that cheesecake is a baked dessert that contains eggs. Chocolate cream cheese pie is just as rich and creamy, except it doesn’t contain any eggs, and it’s a 100% no bake dessert that you can easily make even when you don’t have much time on your hands!
Wrapped in plastic wrap or stored in an airtight container, your chocolate pie should last in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. After that, it may start to dry out and taste a little “off”.
Yes, you can freeze chocolate cream cheese pie. I recommend wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap, and then wrap it with a layer of aluminum foil or place it into a freezer bag and into the freezer. Stored this way, it should last up to 3 months before it starts to go bad.
Optional Add-Ins and Recipe Variations
- Make the crust with golden Oreo cookies, or make a graham cracker crust instead.
- Add a peanut butter pie filling to the bottom of your pie crust, and then add the creamy chocolate filling on top to make this a dreamy chocolate peanut butter cream cheese pie!
- You can also add a little bit of caramel sauce to the filling to make this a caramel chocolate cream cheese pie!
- Sprinkle mini M&M’s, crushed Butterfingers, Reese’s peanut butter cups or Snickers on top. A little chocolate syrup or caramel syrup doesn’t hurt either!
