Add the milk to a small saucepan over low to medium heat.
When the milk has slightly warmed for about 2 to 3 minutes, add in the chocolate chips, whisking until melted.
Add a pinch of salt, and stir that into the mixture.
Warm the mixture, stirring constantly, until small bubbles start to form around the edge of the liquid on the sides of the pan; but don't let it boil, or it will very likely curdle.
When it's done, pour your hot chocolate into your favorite mug, and top with your favorite topping, whether it be marshmallows or whipped cream.
